Three weekends away with your Tesla, Starlink Mini, and Tai
The Anker SOLIX C800 Plus will keep your Starlink Mini, phones, and lights running for days. It will not charge your Tesla in any meaningful way—think 4–5 km of range, max. For the car, you need a standard 240V outlet at your stay (adds ~100–150 km overnight) or a Tesla destination charger nearby.
Every spot below is vetted for three things: open skies for Starlink, a power solution for the Tesla, and a warm welcome for Tai.
Vineyards, rolling hills, and some of the best tiny homes in the state. One hour from Melbourne.
The Yarra Valley is the sweet spot for a first off-grid test run. Close to Melbourne, reliable Tesla destination chargers at multiple wineries, and a glut of architect-designed tiny homes on private farmland. Open valleys mean Starlink locks fast. Tai will love the paddock wanders.
A secluded tiny house overlooking the Yarra River and a conservation reserve. Wood-fired pizza oven, outdoor bath, gas and charcoal BBQs. One of the most loved homes on Airbnb for a reason.
A luxury country retreat with uninterrupted views of gardens, paddocks, and distant hills. Custom king bed, warm and cosy in winter, breezy in summer. Pure romance.
Scandinavian-inspired tiny home with a private sauna and outdoor hot tub. Panoramic valley views from the deck. The ultimate hygge reset.
Tesla charging: Lilydale Supercharger (20 mins) or destination chargers at Rochford Wines, Yering Station, and Oakridge Wines. Most farm stays also have a standard 240V outlet for overnight trickle charging.
Alpine rivers, crisp mountain air, and Victoria's most reliable V3 Supercharger.
Three and a half hours from Melbourne, Bright sits in a wide alpine valley where the Ovens River runs clean and cold. In autumn, the entire valley turns gold and crimson. In summer, it's swimming holes and mountain bike trails.
The town has a Tesla V3 Supercharger, so range anxiety is zero. Wandiligong, just down the road, is where you'll find the best pet-friendly cottages with valley views. Starlink performance is excellent—wide open skies and minimal tree cover.
An outdoor bathtub on the deck overlooking sweeping valley and mountain views. Wood fire in winter, solar-powered off-grid setup. Top 5% of homes on Airbnb.
This is the view from the deck. Starlink would lock here in under two minutes. The Anker C800 would run your Starlink Mini (~50W) for roughly 15 hours continuously—plenty for a working day in paradise.
Tesla charging: Bright V3 Supercharger (8 stalls, 250kW) in the town centre. Also multiple Type 2 chargers at the Bright Brewery and local caravan parks. The Supercharger is a 5-minute drive from most Wandiligong stays.
Where the bush meets the Southern Ocean. Real glamping, real stars, real waves.
Most "glamping" in Victoria is just a fancy tent. She Oaks, near the Great Ocean Road, is the real deal: a permanent luxury tent on a private property, proper bed, ensuite-style setup, and nothing but bushland around you. This is the closest you'll get to true off-grid without sacrificing comfort.
A permanent luxury tent set in natural bushland. Think hotel-bed comfort inside, total silence outside. Starlink will have clear line-of-sight to the northern sky. Tai can roam the property. This is doomer-prep heaven.
Real furniture, real bedding, real insulation. The Anker C800 Plus would easily power the lighting, charge devices, and run a small fan or heater. Add your Starlink Mini and you have a fully connected off-grid office.
Tesla charging: Geelong Supercharger (25 mins) or Torquay destination chargers. The Great Ocean Road itself has limited charging, so top up in Geelong before heading down. Most rural properties will have a standard 10A outlet for overnight trickle charging if you ask.
768Wh capacity. Will run a Starlink Mini (~50W) for ~15 hours. Powers laptops, phones, lights, and a small fridge indefinitely with solar top-up. Will not charge your Tesla. Use it for everything except the car.
~50W power draw. Needs a clear view of the northern sky (Starlink satellites orbit north). Works brilliantly in open farmland and alpine valleys. Struggles in dense Otways rainforest. Set it up on the Anker, not the Tesla.
Standard 240V/10A outlet = ~2 kW = 10โ15 km/hour. Overnight = 100โ150 km added. Ask your host about outdoor power access before booking. Destination chargers at wineries and hotels are faster (11 kW) if available.
Most farm stays and rural properties are ideal for dogs—space to roam, no roads. Bring a tie-out stake, a bed, and his usual food. Always message the host to confirm Tai is welcome and check if the property is fully fenced.
